Reading Books

Your child's reading book will be changed every Monday and Thursday. We recommend that you read with your child each night to help improve both fluency and comprehension.

Night 1: Read the book, sound out trickier words.

Night 2: Read the book for fluency.

Night 3: Read the book, focusing on understanding. Asking questions: who/what/how/why.

Library Books

Your child will have the opportunity to choose a book from the school library to take home to read, every Tuesday. Please make sure the library book comes back to school on this day so that your child can choose a new one.

Home Learning Books

Home Learning will be collected on a Monday, and returned to your child the same day. Each week there will be a short paragraph to let you know what we are learning about, alongside any reminders for the week.

Swimming

We attend a swimming session on a Friday afternoon, at Spiceball Leisure Centre. The children swim between 1.45 and 2.10. You are most welcome to watch from the foyer.

Term 1

Our topic this term is 'All About Me'. The children have enjoyed learning about sketching in art, and have painted some beautiful self portraits. In science, the children have been learning about their body, and were fascinated when learning about their bones and organs.

In Literacy, we have been focusing on the books 'The Driftwood Ball', and 'The Smartest Giant in Town.' Year One have been practicing using full stops, capital letters and finger spaces in their writing, using simple sentences to describe characters and scenery.

More recently in Maths, we have been learning about number bonds to 10, and the children had lots of fun investigating how many number bonds to 10 there are, in the hall.

Term 2

Our topic this term is: If you go down to the woods today...
